Traditional Brick Orangery Extension Replacing a Full-Glass Conservatory
Project Brief
The homeowners were spending far too much on heating their old full-glass conservatory. It was uncomfortable to use in both hot and cold weather and no longer suited modern living. They wanted a high-performance orangery extension that would provide warmth, efficiency, and a seamless connection from their lounge to the garden.
Design & Construction
Surrey Orangery designed and built a traditional brick orangery extension constructed fully to current Building Regulations for thermal performance and insulation. The existing conservatory was removed, and the new structure features insulated cavity brickwork, advanced glazing, and a solid warm roof design to ensure year-round comfort.
A structural knock-through opened the original lounge into the orangery, creating a spacious open-plan layout filled with natural light. A smart-glass roof lantern automatically adapts to sunlight levels, keeping the room bright but comfortable. Finishing details such as sandstone decorative coping stones and closely matched brickwork perfectly complement the character of the existing home.
The Result
This orangery extension has completely transformed how the home feels and functions. Heating bills have been significantly reduced thanks to modern insulation and glazing, while the space remains naturally bright and inviting.
The result is a timeless, energy-efficient living area that flows effortlessly into the garden — an orangery that looks like part of the original home but performs to today’s highest standards.
