Fascia Orangery Extension in Farnborough
Project Brief
We were asked to design a small family room that could be used when the grandchildren visit.
The room needed to connect directly to the garden, as the existing back door was off the kitchen, and create a safe, bright space for play that still worked as part of the home day to day.
Design Challenges
The garden sloped badly away from the house, which meant the external levels had to be carefully reworked to make the space usable.
This involved building up the ground levels, forming new patio areas, and re-laying turf to create a level, practical garden that flowed naturally from the new room.
The Design & Specification
The extension was designed as a light-filled family room that visually linked back to the kitchen.
Key features included:
- Smart glass lantern to control heat and glare.
- Aluminium bifold doors and matching windows opening onto the garden.
- Smart-controlled lighting for flexible day and evening use
- Water underfloor heating throughout
- Tiled floor carefully matched to the existing kitchen flooring
- The result is a seamless transition between the kitchen, new family room, and garden.
The Result
The new room is now used exactly as intended.
It provides a safe, bright space for the grandchildren to play, with easy access to the garden, while also working as a comfortable everyday family room.
The combination of controlled light, level access, and matched finishes makes the extension feel like it has always been part of the house.
